I am a celebrant for the enjoyment. I became a celebrant because I love weddings and also I feel very privileged to be able to share such important life events with people. I do weddings mainly, but also namings, adoptions, commitment ceremonies and I am qualified to do funerals
I only do a limited number of weddings a year, as I like to put a lot of time and thought into preparing and conducting each ceremony. Because it’s not my main occupation I can afford to do that, and to make each ceremony unique and special.
My sister Heather is also a celebrant and we work in conjunction with each other. We keep each other informed on the preparations for each ceremony and try not to have bookings on the same day, so if I get sick at the last minute, your wedding will still go ahead as planned and it will be the ceremony you have chosen, just with a different celebrant. It also helps us as we share resources and equipment and give each other feedback – as we are always learning and striving for improvement.
My standard fee is $700 for a full personalised ceremony which covers up to 3 meetings leading up to the wedding and unlimited email and phone calls. I will talk to you about the ceremony you want and I will write one especially for you giving you lots of help to choose readings and rituals to include if you want. If you just want a basic legal ceremony with 10 or fewer guests the fee is $400.
I bring my own audio equipment and I can supply a table and chairs for signing the register. The fee covers all the legal paperwork required and helps me pay for professional development that I have to undertake each year, my annual registration and insurance. I have performed ceremonies on beaches, in gardens, chapels and once on a rock ledge with the ocean as a backdrop. There are additional charges for travel (over 100km) and accommodation if required and special items like candles, sand, booklets etc. I can discuss this with you if necessary.
You need to lodge a Notice of Intention to Marry (NOIM) with a celebrant at least one month prior to the wedding date. The earlier you select a celebrant the better as they can guide you on times and locations, and it gives them longer to prepare a beautiful ceremony.
I have some lovely testimonials if you would like to see them, and am happy to meet with you for a no-obligation chat to see if I am what you have in mind. Feel free to contact me (email preferred) and we can take it from there.
I wish you well with your preparations and hope that whatever you choose you have the wedding you want.
